Video conferencing is a typical example of multimedia communication applications. In the 1960s, developed countries began research on video conferencing. The early video conferencing system was transmitted in analog mode, occupying a large bandwidth. It represented the videophone developed by Bell Labs in the United States and the 1MHz bandwidth black and white video conference of British BT Company. system.

First, the video conferencing technology development process

From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, with the development of microelectronics, computers, digital signal processing and image processing technology, the theoretical research and practical system development of video conferencing has also developed rapidly. In general, its development has mainly experienced three stages of analog video conferencing, digital video conferencing and international unified standard digital video conferencing.

Since the 1960s, developed countries in the world have begun to study analog video conferencing systems and gradually commercialize them.

In the late 1960s, driven by compression coding technology, the analog system turned to digital systems.

In the early 1980s, a 2Mbps color digital video conferencing system was developed, and Japan and the United States formed a non-standard domestic video conferencing network.

In the mid-1980s, large-scale integrated circuit technology developed rapidly, and image codec technology made breakthroughs, and channel costs were reduced, which provided a good development condition for video conferencing to be practical.

From the late 1980s to the present, multimedia technology, computer technology, and communication network technology are changing with each passing day. CCITT (now ITU-T) has formed the H.200 series of recommendations, which stipulates unified video input and output standards, algorithm standards, error correction standards and a series of interoperable mode conversion standards, which solves the problem of device interoperability between different vendors. The problem has greatly promoted the development of video conferencing.

Since the mid-1990s, the rapid development of computer interconnection has had a huge and profound impact on the telecommunications industry. Multimedia communication systems based on packet-switched networks have gradually become one of the focuses of researchers and telecom, network and computer manufacturers. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has also developed Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP), Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) and other ITU-T H.323 recommendations to ensure the delivery of real-time audio and video streams over IP networks.

From the history of video conferencing technology development, at present, the establishment of video conferencing systems can be carried out according to the two major ITU-T framework recommendations H.323 and H.320, thus forming two different construction schemes. H.320 is an earlier ITU-T video conferencing standard. The standard is based entirely on a series of video conferencing proprietary technologies and standards. The H.323 standard is based on a common, open computer network communication technology. It has broad prospects for development. Since the ITU-T approved the standard in 1996, the technology and market for video conferencing have undergone revolutionary changes. More and more manufacturers are competing to develop new H.323 products, and more and more users are using H.323 technology and products to construct their own video conferencing systems. This is an inevitable trend brought about by the rapid development and integration of communication network technology, computer technology and multimedia technology. Moreover, the H.323 system is increasingly showing superior advantages over the H.320 system in terms of advanced technology, functional integrity, ease of operation, system scalability, and cost performance.

Second, the emergence of high-definition video conferencing systems

At work, some problems can't be solved by teleconference, email or instant message, but you need face-to-face communication, so video conferencing becomes an important and even the only way to solve such communication problems, and the drawbacks of traditional video conferencing systems. As a result, high-quality conference results cannot be produced, and the effect of communication is greatly reduced. Therefore, under the strong market demand, a high-definition video conferencing system was born. In the field of video conferencing, manufacturers also focus on the concept of "high definition". So what is HD video conferencing? It may be vague for some newcomers. Below we will adopt the concept of high-definition video and the standard of high-definition video conferencing. The differences between HD video conferencing and HDTV, the technical requirements of HD video conferencing, and the advantages of HD video conferencing are described in detail.
